The Challenge

A high-traffic fueling station and convenience store in Hobart, Indiana needed a complete exterior refresh. The project included the fuel canopy structure, every pump island base, exterior storefront, and the stone facade around the building — all while keeping the station fully operational for fueling customers throughout the entire project.

The fuel canopy and pump islands especially demanded careful coordination: fuel service could not be interrupted, signage and branding elements needed careful masking, and all work had to happen around live pump operations. Precision prep, containment, and pump-by-pump scheduling were essential.

Our Approach

  1. Pump-by-pump scheduling — work sequenced one island at a time so fuel service remained available at other pumps throughout the project.
  2. Canopy structure prep — pressure cleaning, rust treatment, and priming of steel canopy columns and underside before finish coats.
  3. Two-tone pump island finish — fresh gray-and-white finish applied to pump island bases, bollards, and curbing.
  4. Stone facade and storefront refresh — patched, cleaned, and repainted the building’s exterior wall and entry area.
  5. Signage and brand preservation — careful masking of all branding, signage, and fuel decals throughout the project.
  6. Active-site safety protocols — full containment near fuel pumps, wet-paint signage, and trained crews working around live fueling activity.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a gas station stay open during painting?

Yes. The vast majority of our gas station projects are completed with the station fully operational. We sequence work pump-by-pump and around the canopy structure so fuel service continues uninterrupted. Our crews are trained to work around active fueling with proper containment and safety protocols.

What surfaces do you paint on a gas station project?

Our typical scope includes the fuel canopy structure (columns, underside, fascia), pump island bases and bollards, exterior building walls and storefront, entrance and service doors, curbing and concrete bumpers where applicable, and any interior convenience store work. We custom-scope each project against the site’s specific needs.

How do you handle fuel station safety during painting?

Our crews are trained on active-fueling-site protocols. We use proper containment around pumps, wet-paint signage for customers, approved materials near fueling areas, and careful masking of all fuel equipment. We coordinate with the site operator on any fueling pauses needed for specific work.

Can you handle multi-location fueling brand rollouts?

Yes — gas station and convenience store brand rollouts are one of our most common multi-location programs. We have crews available nationwide and a single national account manager coordinates the full program. Color standards, schedules, and site acceptance are locked in up front so every location finishes identically.

How long does a gas station exterior repaint take?

Single-site gas station projects typically run 3–7 days depending on the canopy size, number of pump islands, and exterior square footage. For multi-location rollouts we standardize the project length per location so schedules are predictable across the program.
